The Pan-IIT Alumni Association holds its meetings on the last Saturday of every month. The themes for inputs and discussions at these are finalized depending on the choice of speaker. The latter is generally an IIT alumnus who is doing significant work in social/technological/political areas.

September 29, 2001 saw the coming together of several eminent social/academic/corporate figures at this forum to discuss "Wealth from Town Waste (Solid & Liquid)". ONE collaborated with the Alumni Association to organize this event. Prof. H.S. Shankar (Prof. of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, IIT Bombay) presented his Soil Biotechnology to a distinguished panel (specialists from the Government, Public, Corporate & Technology sectors) as a sustainable town waste management solution, and several related issues emerged.

The audience comprised a group of persons termed Marg-Darshaks (off-Panel specialists) among alumnus and members of the general public.

Prof. Shankar made a presentation of Soil BioTechnology, outlining the basic science behind the technology and its salient features.

An interesting discussion ensued where the feasibility of the technology was evaluted in the context of the present situation with regard to town waste and the Corporation. Important issues were raised and clarifications made.
